    There’s no oncoming traffic at traffic lights and otherwise on coming traffic on your right can’t get into your mirrors blind spot or just appear out of nowhere. As kids we were all taught to respect cars and safety on bicycles and most of us are still here because of this, hey the rules are changing so do what you thinks best, some people think and act as if a car is made out of polystyrene and if you hit one it will just break up into little balls and be blown away in the wind.

    If cars had total supremacy as you seem to advocate nobody other than motorists would be able to use a road never mind cross one, they are dangerous things and should be used as such, there are far too many around and their use needs to be curbed.

    They don’t have total supremacy only a spoiled child would say something like that, I was in fact advocating that they were dangerous and should be respected as such and repeating what we were all told as kids as how to stay safe on the road and crossing it, I don’t think there are far too many cars around only a cycling nut would say that , you will be calling the roads car sewers next

    A) Depends on the circumstances. In the situation I described, Marshside Rd has a separate cycle-lane leading up to the lights. It forms a sort of 'siding' on the left, which ends in a ramp that deposits riders back onto the road just by the traffic-light pole. You invariably find yourself landing alongside the front car, with no way to get behind it.

    Whereas at most other lights junctions, there is just the bike-box at the front, with no cycle-lane leading to it. In that situation, I find the best way to reach my spot at the ASL (Advance Stop Line) is either to nip down the pavement and rejoin at the front, or more usually, overtake the line of standing traffic on its right-hand side. As for riding up the left-hand side of the standing traffic, it's never a good idea and anyway there's almost never enough room to make it a practical option.

    B) Pleased to hear it, just a pity everyone doesn't do the same. Drivers allowing riders to proceed, before making a left turn with their car, becomes official advice in the new HC. Hopefully, drivers will be made aware of this during the coming media information campaign.

    Do these new rules not make all the pedestrian crossings at junctions redundant because they have priority over all else and they can just step off the kerb and all others have to give way?

    See what you mean, but pedestrian crossings are usually located several metres away from junctions. Where they are right on a junction, there are usually railings wrapped around the rest of the corner, to prevent people just stepping off, e.g. at Ainsdale roundabout.

    That’s a poor excuse, you should ride up the cycle path to the red box at the front of the traffic, you will be a pain in the arse to cars but that’s what it’s there for so you can set off safely and be seen no car will (or should) turn in front of you, you should never ride up the right hand side of cars that’s a really bad idea and a whole new conversation. And if unsure or you feel unsafe be an old lady and dismount there’s no shame in living another day .

    A) I do ride up the cycle-lane to reach the front box, as I do/did on Marshside Rd. But when I arrive at the front, it doesn't help to find a dumba$$ driver is hogging the cyclists box.

    B) That's a new one to me, where does the HC say a bike can't overtake a car/s?
