Thumbs up to news that a bin has been reinstated at Bedford Park after requests from Birkdale residents.

Lee Durkin who is well known for his environmental campaigning locally has been continuing to act on residents’ behalf through the year. This accompanies his ongoing work to improve everyday life in a practical way for residents and businesses across the Birkdale area.

Mr. Durkin has highlighted his efforts as part of his ongoing hope to secure additional goodwill and support from the Local Authority, especially funding for improvements to Bedford Park.

Mr. Durkin said:

“It is great to see the bin has been reinstalled near the children’s play area at Bedford Park. Having launched an extensive residents survey and raising this with the Council at the time, this is proof that things can happen with the right level of hard work all year round.”

He added: “Whilst I respect others may also be making similar enquiries, I have invested much time and effort into this particular survey visiting people based in the surrounding streets besides Bedford Park so it is only right that they see that feedback is essential for the improvement of our area.”

Last seen photographed in blue suit and blue tie on the steps of the Conservative club but claiming to be standing as an independent candidate. Refuses to answer questions as to what his actual policies are. The lightest of lightweight candidates.

he would do better as a independent away from the birthday party crew

If his family are local the chances are that he would have been pushed in his pram around that park past the tennis courts and the kids play area, across the two football fields ( with goalposts, that local teams used to play on ) and around the crown green bowling area and 9 hole putting course near the park keepers huts and storage sheds that are close to one of the many entrances and the on site nursery that was big in its day. The park before Xboxes and PlayStations was a magnificent place full of people and a safe place for kids … well now at least we got a new bin for dog poo.

Actually is more well known for opposing green measures, e.g. safe cycle routes through his patch. By so doing, he disappointed local residents who wanted to get on their bikes to save the environment - duh!

A bin at Ferryside Lane field was in a poor position and the area round it was becoming a muddy quagmire. I just emailed Green Sefton regarding this and within a couple of weeks the bin was moved to a better position next to the entrance to the field. No photographs, no fuss, no publicity, JUST a quick email!!!! Just shows.

Do you mean he didn’t want cycle lanes through tightly packed Birkdale village where the roads are narrow and busy?, taking away the parking in this area would definitely and make no mistake kill it dead . Nobody wanted cycle lanes through this historic area. He didn’t disappoint the residents he expressed his distaste to this nonesense to everyone’s delight .

Narrow road? Birkdale village has a nice wide road through it. The only narrowing is the result of it being lined on both sides with parked cars....Well, I guess all (car) sewers get clogged up with **** sooner or later, lol!

Nobody wanted cycle lanes through this historic area. He didn’t disappoint the residents he expressed his distaste to this nonsense to everyone’s delight .

It would indeed be odd, if 'every' PR8 resident was happy belching out CO2 visiting their local shops. Being aware they live at sealevel and with #Global Warming in mind, the more intelligent resident will be deeply disappointed to lose their safe zero-carbon bike infra.

I am tired of you using eco reasons and climate change as an excuse for your lonely hobby, you are not going to save the world or make any difference whatsoever. The car sewer as you call it through the historic village has parking on both sides ( I think it’s free ) and that is just what is needed to keep it alive, the only road users that are full of $h1T are cyclists .PR8 residents and village business owners were happy to not have to put up with cycle lanes, you are in a dream world of your own .

I ride year-round not only to save on CO2, but to save money and keep my weight down/figure in shape. Summers, I also ride for sheer enjoyment and to meet with kindred spirits. E.g. by touring scenic regions from the saddle, both across the UK and abroad.

Fyi, not all residents are car-mad fools by any means. I regularly come across people (in PR8 and elsewhere) who use a bike, along with others who tell me they would do so if only it was safe to.
