You may be fined £75 for having a beer on the beach !
Sefton Council is looking into creating for the beaches a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) which will enable authorised staff to issue on the spot fines of £75 for an 'offence' .
The council say they are “still developing the list of restrictions to be included in the PSPO”, but rules on drinking alcohol is expected to be included.
A consultation to get public feedback on the plans will run between May 20 to June 24 in the hope of launching the new PSPO from July this year to July 2025.

Authorised Staff will be able to issue fines ?? I suppose it will be delegated to someone on minimum wage to be assaulted by alcohol fuelled visitors.

Exactly !
Also, I wonder if a fine is due for each offence ?
Picture the scene, Mum, Dad and a couple of kids on the beach,
Chairs laid out, windbreak set up etc etc, Mum is lying back catching the sun, kids are doing what kids do on the beach, and Dad sets up the disposable BBQ to cook sausages and burgers, whilst cooking he is enjoying a cold beer from the cooler box,
Along comes one of the 'authorise staff' who spots TWO violations, Alchohol and a BBQ !

Whilst I appreciate that a minority can ruin a day out for the majority, I don’t think fining someone £75 for drinking a beer on a hot sunny day will encourage visitors to our beaches.
I would never condone unruly and anti social behaviour, this looks like just another way to extract money from people simply enjoying a day out.

Stand by for all the outrage from the functioning alcoholics who cannot go anywhere or do anything without the need for alcohol.

While some folk can enjoy a cold beer on a sunny day without turning into anti-social pillocks, there are those that can't.
Not sure that beer patrol officers are the answer.
If the beach is full of people and cars on any given day, would a PCSO or two patrolling the area be better? For any reason, not just drinkers.
As LL says, who would want to be the minimum waged council worker facing an aggressive drunk?
