With an average rating of 4.91 Southport's 600+ food outlets came top for food hygiene ratings.

The analysis was done by High Speed Training.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services, Sefton Council said

I am delighted by the news that Southport has achieved the highest average food rating in the UK. After ranking consistently high over the past few years, it is great to see one of Sefton’s towns take the top spot.

This result is testament to the hard work of our officers in Environmental Health who have fostered fantastic relationships with local businesses over many years to ensure the food standards in our area are high. It is also a testament to the businesses themselves who I know are very proud to be recognised for all their hard work.

This result adds to Southport’s credentials as a thriving, confident town for residents and visitors alike, full to the brim with successful businesses and some great food!”
