Do you seriously think that Sefton MBC is going to give up a very handsome source of income?

No, and precisely why parking charges will never go away! Where there is money to be had, Sefton are right there!

Of far greater concern to local people are the facilities for parking at home. A huge number of properties are not constructed to accept car parking and the lack of on the street parking is a nationwide complaint. Why not use the parking charge profits to create car parks for local people - then people would not protest as much.

Furthermore you're always on about cycling, so why would you feel the need to park under such circumstances? Hypocrite.
Because I need somewhere handy for the bank during the day, to park a works vehicle whilst paying in customers cheque/s!

Another good reason to use a supermarket carpark like Sainsbury's. Even if you exceed the 90mins maximum allowed, unlike pay and display there's no fine - you just pay a small sum for the extra time.

Yes, the restrictions are too authoritative. A bit more leniency would make for better relations all round. A drive who runs five minutes over his parking time is hardly a hardened criminal, but they are made to feel they are.

Agree.....From the minute you leave the vehicle, there's the nagging worry that you might not get back to it in time. That sort of pressure I don't need, which is why I like to come in on the bike - no worries!

For that very reason all parking should be like the one above Sports Direct, you pay as you leave for the time you've been parked.

Yes, that works when you park in a dedicated car-parking facility. But it wouldn't be so easy, to set up for on-street parking.....Only way I can see, would be via a dedicated 'app'. Where you entered a location code and time of arrival. Then entered departure time when leaving. The app would automatically debit your account the appropriate amount. But how would the traffic wardens know if you had played fair?

In other words you abuse the facility. You should pay to park in such cases.

It's always been the case at that car park that you paid for the length of stay on leaving, which is the fairest method.

But you've also made it quite clear that you come into the town centre using four wheels and abuse supermarket parking facilities.

    The North West's biggest hypocrite.

When I pass through the town centre en-route to a job, it's an ideal opportunity to pay-in cheques on the way. It's a more efficient use of my time to do that, than take works vehicle back to the yard and make a second (unnecessary) trip into town on the bike later on.

I you want to wast your time, boycotting a store offering free parking handy to your destination and drive around hunting for a vacant pay & display space. Then shell out for the dubious privilege, quite possibly walking back some distance (in the rain?) then I say more fool you!

Why don't you join the 21st Century, start taking card payments, and advise your customers that you will not be accepting cheques from a certain date. You could even cite environmental reasons (unnecessary trips to the bank) for this, and earn some brownie points from your customers.

Here's one popular with small businesses:

You could also advise the customers that you're jacking up the cost to cover the card processing costs.

Abusing the facility or using the facility to your advantage?

I use Nat West periodically and park in Sainsburys, if I'm longer than the free 1/2 hour I'll call in and spend £5, if I'm under 1/2hr I'll call in a buy something just to be fair.

Similarly with Morrisons I'll park there and head into town but will call in and buy something even though there's no spend requirement.

With Asda, I'll park and pay then call in and spend the relevant amount to get parking fee refunded.
