Dukes Ward Conservative Councillors, Mike Prendergast and Sir Ron Watson, are drawing their constituents’ attention to the latest telephone ‘scams’.
These involve a call claiming to be the provider of the individual’s washing machine where the warranty is set to be about to expire and asking for bank details to arrange a renewal.
Councillor Mike Prendergast said “We have drawn attention as Ward Councillors to this issue and were able to circulate a letter to residents in many areas giving advice on how to approach this problem and this is the latest scam to add to the list.”
Councillor Sir Ron Watson said “I think it is reasonably easy to assess whether or not the call is a ‘scam’ as it is often very clear that it is coming from abroad and the critical point to remember is not to press the button to continue with the conversation but to simply put the phone down and hope you will not be bothered again.”

Hello Sir Ron - are you receiving? I know that you and your party tend to live in another century, but did you know that incoming phone numbers can be blocked? So we don't need to 'hope' that we won't be bothered again - we can actually take action.
