Sefton Council is due to approve £206,053 of spending on repair works and once this has been approved work will start in the year for a permanent fix that should last many years.
Southport Pier is a pleasure pier in Southport, Merseyside, England. Opened in August 1860, it is the oldest iron pier in the country. Its length of 1,108 m makes it the second-longest in Great Britain, after Southend Pier.

Superb observational powers there (from a C and P, no doubt!)

How many planks of wood are being replaced for £206,000? The photos show about 150 planks want replacing that’s about £1,373 a plank. Maybe the photo shows only half and there are 300 planks that’s still £686 a plank.
Hey maybe I miss counted or there’s more so does anyone know how many planks want replacing … for £206 K. ??.

Can you not read? The photo shows a temporary repair being done before the proper project starts.

You really asked that question?
Quote
“ The Pier decking needs to be replaced in its entirety due to its current condition. The decking is rotting from within meaning it is only detected when a timber piece snaps. ”
As an adult, you should try reading rather than just looking at pictures. Maybe you could go out and count all the decking boards and then do some math to get a true cost per plank…..you plank.
Edit..
I’ve done the work for you. The pier deck is about 6000 square metres, so around £33 per square mtr……which is really quite cheap. In fact, that is worryingly cheap. Appears to me that would only just about cover labour costs.

The £200k is only phase 1 so wont be the entire pier.
The work is being spread over the next couple of years so future phases will be subject to future quotes.

That’s what I thought, I was and still am curious to what the total cost will be and the cost not per square meter but per plank on this phase ( most the planks look to be similar size ) , I can read but the first paragraph can be read 2 ways, 1 the work for this ( pictured ) is to have £206k approved and 2 once this has been approved and completed further work at further cost will start.
You see lawed 143 it’s you that needs to learn to read, not only read but read around corners when you are reading council stuff, if the pictures show only phase one at that cost then how many planks do you count want replacing and what is YOUR estimate of each planks cost?, you can already see what I get it to.
I allowed for error by stating
“Hey maybe I miss counted or there’s more so does anyone know how many planks want replacing … for £206 K. ??.”.
And there will be no cycle lanes on the pier PNP.

And I am in full support of restoring our pier, over the years there has been various debates as to keep it or not and I couldn’t believe some would scrap this landmark. Around 1988 ish I worked on a crew to scale, prime and paint the whole length of the pier using hanging scaffolding to walk under and through the metal beams ALL the way along to hammer off the rust then prime with special grey primer and lastly coat all with a black non drying paint not unlike anti vandal paint that guards against the salty sea.
I have always been proud to have worked with this crew doing this maintenance of the whole pier that was government funded so yea I have a good idea of the size of the planks and whatever the cost I am glad it is being restored yet again but hopefully at a reasonable cost and not £1000 a plank.

The only planks are those on the Council in Boothill who let it get in this state too begin with

Nah, you haven’t a clue. This phase is to replace ALL the deck planks throughout the entire length of the pier. £206k for circa 6000sq mtrs. What’s happen at the moment is a temporary repair for safety reasons, until the actual full replacement takes place later in the year, which will be done in phases to allow the pier to remain open. It’s really quite simple to understand when you read properly and do a bit of research. But hey let’s not actual facts get in the way of make believe…..
No need for a cycle lane on the pier as there aren’t any dangerous drivers, the entire pier is a shared path, for walkers, runners, skaters and cyclists. Keep on weeping.

Err sweetheart, if you actually read the thread properly, you’ll find I did the calculation at 8am this morning…4 hours before the editor decided to post similar details… so suck it up you pudding.
Again, you haven’t read properly, you’re so angry and frustrated with yourself you can’t actually comprehend what’s going on around you. Usual Mick Gilbert diatribe…..

No mate your first post with poor maths calculation and bad facts was edited at 09.21
Editor posted the real facts at 12.55
And at 2 pm you enlightened us all to what we had already been told then edited it again at 2.20.
Now you are squirming like a steak pudding boiling away in the chippy, it’s you that is angry aggressive and wanting to meet me and saying I am scared. Ha how sad is that .
Get your facts right in future and don’t wait until the real facts come out to claim it was you that told us all, be calm and be told .

Believe me I really don’t want to meet you. But you keep going on about me and another account being the same person, and that you have evidence and everyone knows and everyone can see how obvious it is….when in fact the truth is so different. But you won’t meet because you’re week and afraid. Afraid to be proved wrong yet again.
With regard timings, you’re so wrong. You’re again making it all up to suit your narrative. Re math, my rough estimate of £33 / sq mtr was a lot closer than your £1500 per plank guesstimate. What a plank you are.
And I’m not your mate, so do one.
