New Sainsbury's opening
Does anyone else think it's odd that there has been very little publicity about the new Sainsbury's shop opening on Wednesday at Meols Cop? No 'Grand Opening' headlines; no celebrity guest; no special offers for the first 50 customers etc. It's almost as though they are just trying to slip into existence without any hoohah whatsoever.
You would think that after spending what must be a hell of a lot of money on building the new premises and re-designing the retail park around it, they would at least be announcing their arrival on the scene, but as far as I am aware, there has been little or nothing.

Promotion costs money. Why waste it promoting something that's not yet open? Better to get the store running smoothly first, then bring the crowds in/advertise your special offers etc.

They have history, lots of it. When the Lord St store was being built part of the Planning Permission was that they had to keep the front facade but one dark night it accidentally fell down so they reconstructed it to what it is now, I don't remember the old Odeon looking like that!

The Odean?? Way back in the “good old days”, that would have been the Palladium or even the Gaumont!! Wouldn’t it??
Just be yourself, no one else is better qualified!!

A soft opening is easier to manage and work through teething issues 50 people queueing up for a half price deal or whatever is pointless.
The store has an enormous physical presence and if they get their "offer" right will be busy for the long term.
Standing next door to some "bargain" outlets and one the high-flying "discounter" will keep some pressure on them.
Tesco will suffer the most.
The problem that the car park will be rammed will help Tesco.
It is all about cars.................

Competition is good. Think, for example, about Churchtown lights where Tesco Express, Spar and the Co-Op all seem to do well despite their close proximity (plus others not too far away).

Yes, competition is good, quite a few of us shop for what we like rather than the apparently cheapest.
