Because by choosing to use residential roads instead of keeping to the main routes, they turn those places into a network of rat-runs....

Health gains of low-traffic schemes up to 100 times greater than costs, study
Policies to help people walk and cycle such as low-traffic neighbourhoods can create public health benefits as much as 100 times greater than the cost of the schemes, a long term study of active travel measures has concluded.

It would be nice if his record player blew up as for the last couple of decades it has been playing the same record over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
So when can we expect the compulsory purchase of all nineteenth and early twentieth century buildings and roads of Southport to be flattened and rebuilt to accommodate him and his bike.
I have phoned the Dutch Embassy and they are prepared to give him a Dutch Passport so he can go whenever he likes on one condition that he wears a Dutch Cap to warm the vacuum between his lugholes.

Which of course, is why it should not be passing through residential areas. If by forcing rat-running motorists to use main roads, it creates congestion, that's because so many have chosen to drive.
Does it not filter through even to your seemingly limited brain power that diverting traffic from Queens Road onto to quiet residential roads is exactly that which you claim to oppose?
Incidentally most builtup areas are residential areas whatever the roads involved.

So that makes them “anti-social commuters speeding to-and-fro” does it? You really are a sad twisted lowlife.

Jump forward to modern times, with tens of thousands of cars, trucks, etc wanting to get through and a layout like that simply can't cope. Fortunately, things have (mostly) moved on since those times. Present-day logic, is to return central areas to the people by removing the bulk of traffic, which goes around via a ring-road instead. Inner destinations remain accessible by car, but driving through the central area from one side to the other is no longer tolerated.
I'm afraid that's more tosh.

Is it not antisocial, to depart from a main road and fly through the side streets. More often than not ignoring the 20mph limits, where kids and dogs etc may be about, particularly at that time of day?

Tosh? You obviously have much to learn about town planning!
Take our neighbour Ormskirk, as an example. Back in the day, all through-traffic traffic passed right through the centre, where the clock-tower stands. Burscough St in particular, was a real 'bottleneck', which is why County Road was created, facilitating Liverpool-Preston traffic.
In more recent times, the new roadbridge over the railway opened up Park Rd to through traffic destined for Southport. At which time, the town's central area was finally freed-up from it's long standing traffic nightmare. People can now move about and shop etc, in complete safety and even hear themselves speak!

Exclusive: Downing Street initially buried study, which Tories had hoped would strengthen arguments against traffic-reducing measures

Diverted traffic from Queens Rd, will now use the A565 where majority of that traffic belongs.
True, you can find residential properties along main routes. However, when someone buys a house on a main road, they do so in full knowledge there will be constant traffic noise and vibration, etc.

Objectors to LTNs, bicycle lanes, and services locally fail to recognize that central and local governments have an obligation to find means to change unsustainable patterns of behaviour.
Of course many people resist changing their habitual ways. But, it is necessary to think about how urban spaces can be made liveable and prosperous 10, 20, 30 years into the future.

as I said you just spill out tosh, inconsistent tosh at that.
By the way, if you feel unsafe or can't hear yourself speak on Lord Street then get on your bike to the Doctors you could discuss your cognition issues whilst your there.

Agree.....What many of these stick-in-the-mud types fail to recognise is, unlike themselves not everyone who uses a car actually wants to. But without safe alternatives like good quality bike infra available to them, they feel they have no choice but to drive.
