I don't think cycle lanes are much use - I have seen several cyclists on the pavements in town even along Hoghton Street since the lanes were introduced.

I do not believe that Covid -19 affected the lungs, I truly think it affected people's brains!

Seeing as there is already a lane for cyclists, Taxis and buses I don't see the need for any more money wasted when they are never used. I would have said spec savers but he has them on already.

Going by that riders general posture, he's moving at walking-pace. Quite possibly is there because he's visiting one or more shops. If so, it would explain him being where he is, after all you can't really 'park' a bike in the roadway!

As I've said several times before, pedestrianising Lord Street would finish off the majority of retail and hospitality outlets within weeks.

How so? As has just been pointed out, Chapel St (traffic-free) is thriving, yet Lord St (with its through-traffic) struggles, being lined with dozens of empty shop......People who want a quality shopping experience, are cleary voting with their feet!

Because not only does the above pic, show an everyday example of the £pedal-pound in action. As everyone who actually shops in town knows, customers pour out of Chapel St station on foot every 15mins of the day!

You would kill a considerable section of the town's public transport services for a start as a brief study of the routes would demonstrate, for a start.

People are not going to patronise retail and hospitality venues, especially in winter, if they are required to face extended distances from reaching or using public or private transport.

If you think Chapel street is thriving to the extent you believe, then you need to visit more.

It's been many years since it enjoyed such success, with the 2006 pedestrianisation almost destroying it for nearly 10 to 12 years afterwards.

Lord Street is a key section of the A565 and any form of pedestrianisation would prove a death knell in a comparatively short time for businesses.
