That's the title of a report on BBC today about plans for a wind turbine on the front of Southport that would have saved Sefton Council £40,000 a year in favour of an exclusivity deal with a developer which has proposed building The Cove, a £75m surfing, hotel and spa attraction in Southport.

The council are nothing if not consistent, More money wasted - again! Two years into planning a larger wind turbine hits the wall while yet another fantasy gets the go ahead.
The Cove will only be attractive to a small number of people - yet another hotel that will never likely to be fully booked.
If anyone wanted a sea sport, then there are yachting and canoeing learning opportunities already in Southport.
Why not invest in a popular family attraction? A heated open air lido would have been a far better option in consideration of the town and it's visitors.
Still, with luck it will offer a novel shelter for the wild campers on Princes Park.

No doubt if they had agreed to having a windmill there would have been other emails protesting that such a thing has no place on a seaside front, more evidence that Sefton doesn't care about Southport, and blah blah.

Spot on.
An ugly monstrosity of a turbine, or a fantastic resort attracting more visitors…..
No brainer…..but you’ll always get the usual moaners…..
