Running around a race track something some of us humans do for "fun" is a holiday compared to life for many in the wild.

Except of course we haven’t had wild horses living in the U.K. since approximately 7000 BC and 3500 BC. All race horses here have been bred in captivity for the sole purpose of being exploited for financial gain.

Carnage that’s made its way back to the city centre. Just driven through Liverpool on my way home. It’s pretty obvious that a large proportion of the race goers treat the day as an excuse to just get hammered. Not a care in the world for what’s going on, on the race track or the welfare of the animals involved. The article you posted seems to be back this up.
Hopefully some of the animal activists will get through tomorrow and disrupt proceedings.

    Great Race!

    Well, what a race!

You'll not believe this, yet it's 100% true: Went bookies today and said I wanted to put £5 each way on 'the favourite', (which I believed to be Corach Rambler last years winner). When I looked at my ticket, he'd given me the wrong horse: I Maximus - duh!

Anyways, too late to make a fuss, so I settled down in disgruntled mood to watch the start. Imagine how I felt, when Corach Rambler went down at the very first fence!

Roll on the finish and who should come through - but I Maximus! What a fluke! Ticket states my winnings to be: £43.

Big Deal!! No mention I notice, whether the horse that fell was hurt, or even something more serious.

Do I detect an envious tone there?

One horse taken to be checked over, the rest of the field just fine. A few jockeys unseated, but apparently ok. Many, many thousands had a great day out. And best of all, I ended up (albeit unwittingly) backing the winner - yay!

As I said “Big Deal” It clearly meant nothing to you and your kind, whether the horses arrived safely home, or not.

Nobody wants to see horses fall, why would they? It was a fine race, one of the best in years. Nothing nasty happened and a good time was had by all, I can't see what the fuss is about tbh.

What's there to get? I've always enjoyed the National, as have millions of others over the years. The modern version of the race is, if anything, better organised and safer then it's ever been. I certainly wouldn't support ending it now and turning the famous course into just another boring housing estate or something.

It's interesting to see the riderless horses continuing the race and taking the jumps. In fact, one finished 'second' yesterday.

Some might say that they do this because they are 'conditioned' or brainwashed, but others might see it as following 'herd instinct' so it's a natural thing for them to do. Either way, they seem to do it quite willingly.

You still don’t get it, do you. I’ll spell it out simply so that even a thicko like you might understand. Approximately 200 racehorses die each year on racecourses in the UK, as the result of falls or accidents . Perhaps you should donate your ill-gotten 43quid to those organisations working to stop this appalling carnage.

It used to be the same here but at least they are doing something about it. Only 2 states now run steeplechases. Hopefully they’ll soon be a thing of the past countrywide.

I'm curious, does the same 'no-jumps' thinking, also apply to horse-trials like Badminton and Burghley. And what about events like showjumping and foxhunting (with a drag).? Without the challenge of jumps, these would all become non-events!

Fox hunting with a drag or ‘trail hunting’ is a lie. It doesn’t exist. There have been countless reports that this loophole allows the hunts to carry on hunting foxes illegally.
I was out with Liverpool hunt sabs in Cheshire for most of this season, disrupting the larger hunts. Nine times out of ten they don’t even make any pretence that they’re trail hunting. It’s a loophole that needs closing, and the hunts to disbanded for good. Thankfully the police have started taking an interest and there’s a few prosecutions in the pipeline.

In 2004 the passing of the Hunting Act made fox hunting illegal. Since then hunts have claimed to be following artificial scent trails rather than deliberately hunting wild mammals. This is nothing but a lie.

Trail hunting is a smokescreen used as a means to continue to illegally hunt wild foxes

It's a natural thing to run with the herd but the riderless horses rarely jump the fences and take the easy route around it.
