I 'admit' to being ped/bike friendly, looking out for and giving priority to them at junctions, etc. Not to mention, allowing generous clearance when overtaking them, which is more than you can say, for certain uncaring motorists you see about!

I merely agreed with 'local', who in post #60 said motorists: 'can't park, reverse or operate their cars properly and come with all sorts of health conditions', etc.....If that isn't a 'motley crew', then what is?

My brand new 24 plate car doesn’t blunder anywhere it can read speed signs and can shift speed between two restrictions safely knowing if someone is frantically trying to overtake ( with blind spot detectors ) or not so blind spots ( while racing awkwardly forward to stop them in your case ).
My car has camera lane assist alarms, it also has a feature that detects other road users in front of it and keeps a set distance away automatically breaking when they do. It has cameras all round it to see and record cyclists blundering along and the reverse camera can detect movement behind and auto stops the car if anything like a cyclist blunders along on his phone behind me while I am reversing and can work out a full ariel view over the car as if a drone is taking the pic from above. The next model up can even park itself at the press of a button.
Its super bright auto lights including auto high beam that can see oncoming cars or bicycles should they on occasion use lights and adjust accordingly. The auto windscreen wipers front and back and auto folding mirrors with blind spot alarms help with full visibility to ensure no blundering occurs and that’s just the start of the tech in todays super high breed electric cars that are powered by an onboard petrol engine generator so you don’t have to plug them in but are driven ONLY by electric .
And they have this feature where you press a pedal down with your foot and the whole thing stops perfectly silently with no clicking or whirring at traffic lights and zebra crossings, they are also faster and safer while getting to town shopping.

The only blundering I have seen lately are cyclists blundering onto proper carriageways that real road users use or riding on the pavement straight across the mouth of a junction and old lady’s blundering along tripping over cycle lanes ( and smashing their face in ) that want removing because the whole town are in uproar about them on EVERY social media and the only supporters of them are a couple of cyclists that dont use them and some Labour councillors that made the mistake of buying them thinking their attempt to fool the residents of Southport that they were consulted about them worked .. when it didn’t…
They just fiddled it to look like it did by including the residents of Sefton and other schemes that they SAY are working ( until you ask the residents and businesses in Sefton that are actually inconvenienced by them.
Cyclists are trained at the age of about 8 for an hour at school where real drivers have to take more and more lessons every year then multiple tests including HAZARD PERCEPTION at a massive cost in money and time where as any old fool can buy a £25 bike and think he is some kind of authority on the road because …. Well I don’t know why as there’s no tech to detect bullshat, I guess it’s a natural gift after reading his posts.

No!! Local said SOME motorists, you then enhanced that to MOTORISTS in pursuit of your deep hatred of them. For your information, there many millions of excellent, highly trained motorists out there, a few examples being emergency drivers, HGV and PSV drivers, not to mention the vast majority of car and van drivers. Perhaps you are judging all drivers as a motley crew based on your own low standard of driving, which at times, is outright DANGEROUS and RECKLESS.

The driving test has changed since you took this test 50 yrs ago and it gets harder every year, just driving backwards and forwards in the car park isn’t good enough any more as there are more dangers on the roads today like cyclists blundering about with their eyes shut .,

BUT, as pointed out, by another poster, all that extra training leads to even driving instructors ignoring the "junction" rule when teaching the next generation how to drive correctly.

BTW, earlier in this thread, I asked why I believed that the junction rule was brought in to "protect the Government's back". Well, I'm pretty sure it must have been introduced because of the amount of pedestrians injured at junctions. Clearly, the Government had to be seen to be doing something about the situation. Unfortunately, they have made matters worse. Why? Well, drivers are clearly ignoring the rule but, of course, there will be a huge amount of pedestrians out there who knowing that they have the right of way at junctions, and assuming approaching cars will give way ( like at a Zebra crossing) step out into the road. And, as I keep warning drivers, injuring pedestrians at a junction will probably be treated like injuring a pedestrian on zebra crossing. If I was a driver, I wouldn't take a chance that A) pedestrians won't step out into the road (because pedestrians could easily -and quite rightly - assume drivers will obey both the hierarchy rule and the giving way to pedestrians rule) and B) if a driver hits a pedestrians, that the motorist won't be in very, very big trouble.

P.S. Come to think of it, surely drivers should now treat pedestrians at junctions, like they would treat pedestrians crossing or about to cross a zebra crossing. That would be the wise thing to do.
