How about those who blithely just keep walking at a junction oblivious of everything around, not a regular happening, but a while back I was approaching a junction where I was going to turn left, ahead two pedestrians marching along not paying any attention to anything else.

Fortunately I had noticed this pair who where clearly not paying attention, sure enough they just stepped off the pavement and continued across the junction, only then did the lady notice a car stopped about a yard away as she walked past the front of the car.

Clearly a pair who believed the “priority” of pedestrians, irrespective of situation, in this case I had recognised that this pair where not in the real world and avoided them, but what if I hadn’t noticed or been aware? Before anyone comes up with a “smart” response I was actually in front of them before the junction, but simply didn’t look at the car already starting to turn.

I don’t think I’m special in any way, motorists don’t set out to contact, or injure anyone and most will take note of others and take evasive action when possible.

Yes, that's just how it should be...The motorist is the one who is in the lethal machine, not the peds/riders. So onus is on the motorist, to save these situations and avoid an accident.

Surely the person most at risk needs to take control of the situation and avoid danger.
Relying on someone in an air-conditioned sound booth for my safety is simply a non-starter, some of them aren't fit to cut the lawn with a petrol mower.

They can't reverse them, park them or even have the foggiest how they work.

Know what you mean....roll-on autonomous vehicles. At least they can detect objects ahead and will slow down/stop as necessary.

Some pedestrians behave irresponsibly on occasions, as do all road users. The law, or code of conduct, is clearly stated in the Highway Code. Quoting individual instances of carelessness does not alter the law.

In your example the pedestrians were at fault and the motorist was not.

I did say not a regular occurrence, but it is noteworthy that our resident “expert” still insists that the onus is on the motorists in any and every circumstance.

We are human and certainly not infallible, but of course our own tame road use expert, as ALL the answers.

I for one, a part-time ped, as we all are at some time or other, very much welcome the HC updates....In the past when crossing the mouth of a side road, you couldn't rule out receiving a threatening hornblast to get out of the way, from some irate motorist who swings in from the main road.

Now, provided I arrive on foot at the junction first, I can cross and any approaching car/s have to give way. Though I wouldn't rule out still being honked at. In which case, it would be sorely tempting to stop in my tracks on the spot and voice 'what's the matter with you?', to the ignorant d**k at the wheel, lol!

You would have to be particularly dumb to rely on cars "having to give way" not a chance. I much prefer to wait and stay alive same on a bike.

I had right of way is not something I want on my gravestone.

Agree....It's not beyond the bounds of possibility, that there are callous-enough motorists out there. Who, despite seeing a ped crossing the junction and having sufficient time to brake - would actually be prepared to hit the ped.

ADMIN - SUGGESTING ATTEMPTED MURDER !!!!! IF THIS WAS FACEBOOK THIS POST WOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN

    WTAF!!!!

Out of the many thousands of stupid and ridiculous comments you have made over the years, that one really has to be the most imbecilic comment you have EVER made! No motorist would be prepared to hit anyone.

    You need psychiatric help!!!!

It's what 'local' is implying, in his post #23. Basically, that the level of intimidation on our roads is so great, that having the guts to walk across a junction when traffic is coming, has shall we say - a certain element of risk!

His post highlights just how demented he really is. His pure hatred of motorists has taken over his life.

"Local" is most definitely NOT implying that a motorist would hit a pedestrian. He's actually trying to point out that he prefers to look after himself and stay safe by waiting for a suitable gap or using a crossing.
