Can you please give me some history and an estimate on this water jug, which has been left to me by my Mother.

I think it is German and something to do with Richard Eckerd.

How did you manage to stick it on that wall so it doesn't fall off?

The item is called a ewer.
It was used for holding water for the purpose of washing
The small ewers (jugs ) are for hand washing.
Some people call them a rose water ewer,they come with a dish .
Your item seems a lot larger and could have had a basin and used for face and hand wash.
It is continental. Items like this was made in many countries.
including Germany, Austraia, France, and Italy. Capo-di-monte of Naples is the most famous.
Items like this are still made to day (reproduction) and cost very little money.
They were also made in pairs a left and a right and are placed either side of a fire place.
You have not showen the back stamp or bace mark on the under side of the ewer. This would have helped in dating and naming the factory.
Commercial Value in this part of the world is low.
But on the other hand Cherub and angelic figures are collectable.
Items like this have not increased in price over the last 10 years.
It would be impossible to date and price the item or even guess the factory with out seeing under the bace.
I do not know where Richard Eckerd comes in on this.

The name is Richard Eckert
NOT Richard Eckerd

The "Y" mark on the bace is from the factory of Richard Eckert.
The Firm started making Hard Paste porcelain in Germany in 1895.
The firm I think was still making items as late as 1970.
After handeling and looking at the ewer I would think it was made after WW2 about 1960 to 1970.
It is one of a pair.
The ewer you own because of the chip on the bace the value would be greatly reduced.
In auction I would put a reserve of £50.
