I had one of those years ago, oddly enough my bp was lowest when i was in the pub, the doc didn't find that amusing.

Medical stuff is not my field of expertise. But couldn't they plug a pressure-sensitive valve into a blood vessel. To allow release of blood into a discreet detachable container, when pressure exceeded a preset level?

Try to forget about it! Have you got some hobby you could be doing - painting, reading, music, photography etc., If you sit around thinking about it, you are making yourself suffer for no reason, and the more you think about it the worse you will feel.
Are you able to get out and about? The weather has been lovely, you don't want to waste it. As you get older the more notice you take of the things around you - how about going to the park?
From earlier posts, we know you worry, but try to be more positive - you will feel a lot better for it. All the best

I must have spent the best part of a decade trying to control mine.
The doctors had me on varying combinations of different meds and now have been on Losartan, InDapamide, and Amlodopine. These sort of got my bp down to the ‘just about acceptable’ level but over the past year I’ve been eating plenty of seeds and berries. I’ll take a few palmfuls of pumpkin seeds and also mix sunflower seeds with a punnet of blueberries.
my bp has gone from readings like 140/100 to the readings of about 120 odd / 80 odd. Blackberries are good as well but the pops are a nuisance.
Everybody reacts differently to different treatments but it might be worth a try.

I'm on Ramipril and Amlodipine. Its almost within acceptable range but at heart I know what the problem is. 6 to 8 cups of strong coffee a day. 6 to 8 tins of Guinness a night since the pubs have been closed and I smoke. If I packed them all up would I live longer or would it just feel like it ?

Instead of relying on a bunch of internet strangers to garner health advice, you should speak to your Doctor. The coffee intake will be having an effect on how effective your medication is working. Drinking up to a 100 units of alcohol a week (8 cans of Guinness a day would give you this value) would be a major red flag and class you as a problem drinker. The NHS recommends you don’t drink more than 14 units a week. Added to all of this, you smoke as well? Oh boy, sounds like a recipe for disaster.

The only thing that scares me more than dying is getting old. I'd rather spend a few more years looking at the lid of the box than looking at some other poor decripit old sod the other side of the granny farms lounge. Us both in soggy nappys. That is NOT on my wish list.

But if you cut down on the alcohol and stopped smoking, you would immediately start feeling the benefits, and begin looking forward to a longer and healthier life.

Depressive thoughts are creeping in whilst you are stuck in bad habits.
What about taking up walking then as you feel fitter running.
Cut down on the coffee and smoking.
