WW2 was fought against a vicious, dictatorial ideology, at no time were we at war with all of Europe, remember most of Europe was suffering even more than us, a union of European countries was and still is the best way forward, true we may not all agree at all times, but that can be applied anywhere at any level, your comments are from another long gone era, the days of Empire are long gone and will not return.

Patriotism is not wanting to fight the world, it isn't flag waving, beating your chest and shouting down every voice you don't agree with.

Patriotism, pride in your country sure, to have the best possible results for your country and it's people certainly, trying to live on history is not patriotism, trying to blame another country for the actions of others now long gone, if that's your only argument a very large chunk of the present world has very good reason to hate this country.
