    Background music on tv

Am I the only person that is tired of the loud background music on the TV.
The worst are the one note that goes on for ever. It is louder that the people speaking, on some programs.

When you watch the old black & white films, you can hear every word and they have music too.

I used to notice that more watching films, but now some TV shows are the same. I was watching 'The Staircase' on Sky recently. Turned up the volume to hear the dialogue, then the music came booming in and I was grabbing the remote to save my poor elderly neighbour's ears.

Every episode I had the volume up and down like a bride's nightie. I thought it was an age thing, then one of the kids nearly jumped out of their skin, so it isn't because we're clocking on a bit.

I think it's the idea of producing a 'cinema experience' in our own homes, with everyone having 20 foot TVs stuck on the wall. Doesn't work for me.

Agree. I'm another who has to 'ride' the volume control, when trying to follow a documentary or whatever. Tbh, I don't watch much tv anyway, particularly not in Summer, when it's still nice outside till quite late. E.g. I'm sat in the open air right now, beneath a nice shady tree in the countryside, with the bike alongside.

Adverts are another reason to grab the remote control, always considerably louder than the programme you're watching.

The background soundtracks on peaky blinders and stranger things are magnificent and many films have brilliantly chosen soundtrack background music.

I record everything I want to watch, then fast forward the ads. And yes, loud background music is irritating in the extreme.
Just be yourself, no one else is better qualified!!

There was one American Police drama that my wife liked watching and the background music drowned out the dialogue. I tried all the different sound settings and could not get rid of the noise. What I did notice was it got better the longer the series went on the better it got so I imagine they'd had lots of complaints.

I don't get tired of it - in fact, it doesn't even bother me. I gave up watching television more than twenty years ago and swapped it for the freedom to spend my evenings as I choose, and for peace of mind.

When I do put the tv on, it's usually for something specific. Other than that I've little time for it, as most of the stuff they put out is of no interest. And being a 'smart' tv, I usually click it onto Youtube instead and watch vids of whatever takes the fancy.

I find they don’t have background music on whatever takes the fancy in fact you have to turn it down altogether in case the neighbours hear it.
