I reckon the VAST majority don’t ride bicycles or want to go to town shopping on one in the rain, I think it’s a poor doo to lean on climate change as an excuse for a poor argument supporting the minority view, most people are wanting to drive their cars both ways down roads that they pay their expensive car tax to drive on and most folk would just as soon go electric if economically viable (even though that is not really much more climate friendly).
The council will ask again and again lots of different folk until they get the answer they are looking for as this comes from the top regardless of what the public want, you never know tho peoples opinions may change it but I wouldn’t hold my breath .

You really do write some utterly crass nonsense and as for preferring to "bury heads in the sand", you're a prime example with such drivel.

NO, as usual, you’re completely wrong. Looking at the responses, the majority are “NOT HAPPY AT ALL” at the prospect of having main through roads reduced by up to 50% to pander to the wishes of a few cyclists

I guess the majority of us have come to the conclusion that trying to put the Cycling Zealot on the right path (pun intended) just brings the words "bang", "head" and "brick wall" to mind...

Precisely.....Even electric cars contribute to the problem, since they must be charged with a fair chunk of electricity that has to be generated by some means. Taking a bike in place of an electric car, lessens the load on the national grid. Thus allowing that same chunk of power to be put to better use elsewhere, where it's use really is essential, e.g. to power a hospital.

Just to shut the idiot up can we all sign a pledge that to appease the clown we are all willing to forgo any motorised form of transport to be replaced by bikes, Wheelchair carrying bikes, Large object delivery bikes, Police panda bikes and traffic bikes not forgetting undercover bikes, Ambulance bikes, Fire appliance bikes with a 500 gallon tank ladders and stirrup pump, taxi bikes. No one is allowed to leave a two mile radius of their home address.
I am sick tired and fed up of his constant drivel, if he lived in the real world it might get into his head (there is enough room) that 90% of people live a life totally alien to his and bikes for everything we do record is akin to "I know a song that'll get on your nerves repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat"

In the real world, we experience dry days and wet days in almost equal proportion. In the real world, a significant proportion of trips made are of 4miles or less. So, there are many occasions when a bike would be as good a choice as, if not better than, a car to get from A to B.......Using a car, and only ever a car, for every trip, strikes me to be just as obsessive as riding a bike for every trip strikes you!
In an ideal world, it makes perfect sense to own both a car and a bike. Making the decision of which to use on the day, dependent on circumstances. E.g. Is it rainy or dry outside? Is it a short or long trip? Do I need to carry a large load or not?

I will continue to cycle around the streets of Southport, nothing appears to stop me.
Where that isn't convenient or suitable I will walk.
Both are good for me.

You forgot to mention smoky, high polluting wood burning bikes.

But you don't live in the real world.
Otherwise you'd never post any of the crass drivel that you compose.

Oh good. Another thread where middle age men rage at cyclists, then attack PNP.
There's no easy answer. As we (hopefully) move toward a greener planet, more people, through environmental reasons or financial constraints, will have to use bikes. Or more to the point not use cars for short journeys.
It'll happen. It has to. Looking at the report, who seriously DOESN'T want to: Improve air quality / reduce pollution from vehicles, Reduce traffic noise, Reduce traffic congestion / traffic jamsImprove the safety of the roads?
It can't happen by magic. Change is inevitable. As I said on another thread, it would be better if all councils took up the same type of cycle lanes in the same type of areas, so it isn't a bit of red tarmac here, or posts sticking up there. But more and more of our highways must be given over to cycles. Less and less space will be the domain of cars.
Do you all rage at bus lanes, or agree that they are far better for our environment than dozens of cars? For people to regard cycling as safe, particularly for families, there needs to be more cycle lanes. I don't think anyone is saying that all cars must be off all roads, but changes are going to happen eventually. And yes, cycles aren't practical for everyone, but we all benefit when people do use them.
Good on those that do.

The change that is inevitable is being blocked by people who just oppose anything, they are actually shooting themselves in the foot because by not accepting these measures the Government will actually have to force them through which will probably be by punitive taxation and they will probably be more draconian.
