Following Government Investigation
Following a report tendered by Government Commissioners investigating Liverpool Council - it has been stated that Government officials will be installed into various council departments in Liverpool to oversee the running of Planning, Highways and the regeneration directorate.
"Mr Jenrick spoke on the findings of a government inspection report into the council's operations that was damming in its assessment of aspects of the council's operations.
He said the report, by Max Caller, illustrated that there was a "pervasive and rotten culture" within the council and a "culture of intimidation" among some teams of staff there."
It has been going on for years!

Which Party is it that Starmer's alleged to be leader of?

It seems from what's being reported that the current Leader of the Labour Party (who's also a QC, and a former DPP & Head of the CPS) would find your view a bit cynical.

And it would appear that the Opposition consists of Yvette Cooper and Ian Blackford, with Jamie Carragher chipping in over Liverpool.
I understand, to a point, that Starmer is trying to remove himself as far as possible from the last occupier of his office, but joining the ERG to prove the point is a bit much.
Meanwhile, people are dying while everyone plays 'I'm taking my vaccines back'.
Quite bizarre. It's like watching a bunch of 10 year olds performing a play they've written after learning about politics from the Beano.
Oh well. I'm sure these things will pass and the grown ups will eventually come in and send them all for a nap.

When the Government (or its commissioners) took over Rotherham Council I don't recall a politician sticking their neck out to defend Rotherham Council.
Trying to defend Liverpool City Council would put someone on a similar hiding to nothing.
To think that it wasn't so long ago that Joe Anderson along with Andy Burnham were the plucky, upstart Northern Mayors sticking it to the Government.
Anderson's always reminded me of Coli, the old Teamsters boss:
