There are no trains between Formby and Moorfields all week as far as I know it's a rail replacement bus.

Heard somewhere they are modifying all platforms along the route, to accommodate new trains of a different width....Might have been easier to order new trains the same size as the old ones, so avoiding the need for all this work and disruption!

It's nothing to do with width, as far as I am aware train widths are standard. It's about train height. The new trains are lower and have the sliding step to bridge the gap between train and platform and therefore all the platforms need to be a standard distance from the doors for the sliding step to work properly.
A lot of the platforms in south Liverpool are much lower than even these trains. They're just standardising the whole system including upgrading the power supply and taking advantage to do extra work they are unable to do while they have the extended closures.
I wish people would stop moaning. The system is being improved for our use. Next you'll be moaning when things breakdown!
Enjoy the nice new rolling stock when it starts arriving in the summer!
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I am happy that they're doing the work as it means the new trains are on the way. But over Half Term? Really? Now I have to drive into Liverpool and find somewhere to park to take my son in to see the Da Vinci exhibit at the Walker.
I'm only happy when it rains....

Why? there is a rail replacement bus service running every 15 minutes from/calling all stations and an express service every half hour from Formby to Moorfields.

The 'Express Service' takes over an hour, last week the calling all stations service was quicker.
