    Immigration

When interviewing immigrants, no one asks

'Why do you come through all the different countries to get to Britain?'

When I was in India they all wanted to go to Britain.

    When asked why they said

No 1 " Your government pay you not to work"

No 2 "You have free health care."

No 3 ."You get a pension."

The vast majority of refugees don't come to Britian.

You spoke to the entire population of India?.
What language did you converse in. If it was English there's a clue.

These are all aspects of a civilised country.
Would you prefer to get rid of these things?

Why immigrants want to settle here is often historical dating back to when the British Empire ruled, these people often still see Britian as the 'Mother Country', similarly many from Syria & Iraq want to go to Germany, far more chose Germany for it's reputed greater opportunities than Britian for it's universal language.

I've often wondered why too......Yes, there are people in the world who have a valid reason to claim asylum, and I'd be the first to provide it to someone with a genuine life-threatening reason.

However, I would draw a very strict line at people who abandon their homes and head for Europe/the UK, simply to make (or claim!) money. It baffles me too, how someone camping/living in a civilised and peaceful EU country like France, can claim they are still (if they ever were!) in mortal danger.

Turning their backs on a safe country like France, as they frequently do, by deliberately putting their life at risk, via engineering themselves into a dangerous situation. I.e. by appearing mid-Channel in a flimsy rubber boat, is imo simply taking the p*$$!

As soon as they learn that they will be housed in a filthy Britannia Hovel and be given inedible food it doesn't deter them so there has to be some attraction to come to this multicultural killing field of a Country where our hospitality leads them to want to blow people up or show their skills with a knife anyway as the US has warned Europe about the imminent invasion of the Ukraine by Russia we might find they are not so keen to come to war torn Europe.

Mother country? You mean we imposed our language on them and stole their natural resources leaving them in poverty. Had we not done that maybe there'd be less need for them to seek a perceived better life in a country where they already have a grasp of the language.

Gosh that's a rather sloppy interpretation of history.

Don't run your forebears down so much.

The current crop of migrants come from many places for many reasons not least because we are a great country.

There is no doubt, that it would have been preferable, for the European powers to have never entered Africa....By leaving the 'natives' to continue living their low-tech sustainable, straw hut, loincloth and spear lifestyle - the world and the environment would have been better off.

I'm well aware the current crop of migrants come from many places. I was specifically responding to a comment relating to India.

Do you think they would not have progressed beyond straw huts, loincloths and spears if the natural resources of their country had not been plundered?

If they had no knowledge of life outside their own piece of jungle, they would surely have continued to live as they always had.

We also told them that they could have passports and could come to this country, we wanted them to come to man our buses and railways and work in the cotton mills.

It's a wide but rather appropriate summary, the current crop of migrants are mostly on the move for the same reasons, the so called Western Powers trying to impose our lifestyle and rule on their countries by force.

Or not in the case of Afghanistan they are fleeing the country because "their lifestyle and rule" imposed by force is failing and abhorrent.

Very Hard to find anything good about the very anti-western Taliban.

As to India another country that gets the rose tinted glasses treatment did we arrive into a balanced tolerant educated society ?

    A big resounding no.

Now we are well gone horrendous treatment of some castes and mind-numbing inequality is the norm.

Did we do some things badly no doubt on reflection,
but we certainly didn't ruin some nirvana.

It is though very trendy to rubbish our forebears and not for me.

We may find the rule in these countries abhorrent and unacceptable to US but who are we to say what it should be, they may and probably do find our rule and lifestyles abhorrent.
