Just read about this.
It's a great shame. My old Ma used to love meeting her mates there for a game or two.

How come a Bingo Hall is allowed to be called Mecca?

There's was one in Bootle called the Buckingham and before it opened it was rumoured that the Queen owned the company then when it was opening there was going to be a high profile person opening it.

The company has had that name since the 1930s.
Some of the muslim community in Luton protested against it in the 1990s but the name remained.
"Mecca" is a commonly used term in english for somewhere lots of people are attracted to.
Presumably few are offended by its use.
It's spelt and pronounced differently in arabic.

I suppose one could argue that these people are trying to make the UK home from home as they feel so comfortable here. But I get annoyed. If you asked one of these people around your house as a guest, would you be happy if they put their armchair in your living room, and set up their own television, with their own drinks and food in your larder? They are now building a new very large mosque in Blackburn. Not to mention there are eighteen others in the area which are seldom full.
I find it very disrespectful that these people move to another country, are accepted and given everything the country has to offer, then try to change everything to suit themselves. They set up their own churches when they are fully aware that the country they have moved to, has a very conflicting faith to theirs. They could have chosen to move to several other countries having the same ideology as theirs.
I think it is very rude and selfish to constantly demand that the host country changes their ways to accept theirs. No other immigrants have taken so much advantage of our generosity. There are a growing number of people who are losing patience.

There have been mosques and Sikh temples in this country for well over a century and synagogues for a lot longer than that. You are right about a growing number of pe6 losing patience, they are losing patience with you and your racist rants and bigotry.

Again and Again! It is like talking to primary school kids! LEARN THE MEANING OF RACISM - BY YOUR VERY POST, YOU ARE A RACIST!!!! My discussion is not racist - I have not even mentioned a race - you idiot! A discussion about nations IS NOT RACISM - Check out the legalities of British Law on this subject. By your understanding - every published newspaper, every social media newspaper report, every history book, every psychology book, every art display, every school etc., is RACIST. Just how stupid is that ?
Liverpool 1889. First Mosque! London 1908 First Seikh Temple. Query - why would you want to build more mosques when the ones already built are not used much? British Churches with little use have non religious venues for all comers - to attract all nations. Try to gather as much grey matter together as you can now - because you need to be able to think! My response was that there was an objection to the British word Mecca. A totally uncalled for objection since it is spelled and pronounced differently to that of the Arabian definition.
With all due respect would you go over to Pakistan, Arabia, etc., and start kicking off about what you don't like about their country? I do believe that it was in one of those countries the authorities acted against some western women who were dressed in bikinis even. That of course would be considered 'racist' - would it not? By you, that is. If you were to consider going over and telling them what you disagree with - please let me know, I would love to watch.

Obviously there is a need if more mosques are being built either because there is not one in the area or because of capacity, I think they are well used unlike 'British ' churches most of which are locked up from one week until another. What right should a Western Women have to wear a bikini in a country that has dress laws? When in Rome..........
