I used to like Smarties bar, cheapest in Uk and a broad mix of characters from hells angels to old ladies and everything in between.

It's all down to personal choice, going for "cheap" prices often fills the place with undesirables and idiots. Having been in Weatherspoons in different towns in the Country nothing changes reasonable food low priced beer same gathering of odd balls.
Also any pub which allows parents to sit guzzling alcohol while their kids run wild is not for me.

So which are you then, an undesirable or an idiot? Or possibly even both?

Depends what you want Chas, Good beer or good atmosphere. Peaky’s in town seem to do well on both counts.

I haven't been a pub drinker for a great number of years now, apart from the odd glass while having a meal, but my younger self thought that The Cheshire Lines was a nice friendly place for a weekend drink or two.

You might be in for a surprise if you were, they're getting harder to find....The Becconsall has gone, along with the one in Banks, the Plough, the London, the Railway, the Shakespeare and the blundell, now all consigned to history.

If you want just a pub, no piped music, no Jukebox, minimal TV's & no food then The Guest House, Union Street is a good option.
