5.30pm Tonight - Monday. Horror! The iconic Notre Dame is burning - a truly fabulous building holding some of the most valuable artwork in the world.

From what I have heard, the building was undergoing renovations - there was scaffolding all around the spire, where the fire broke out. If I was the contractor for that work, I would put in for bankruptcy immediately and run.

From what I have heard, the building was undergoing renovations - there was scaffolding all around the spire, where the fire broke out. If I was the contractor for that work, I would put in for bankruptcy immediately and run.

The roof and the spire have collapsed apparently but the fire is under control, it's reported. Was only there a couple of years ago....amazing cathedral. Hope they can save it.

Always a bit sad to see an iconic building distroyed , hopefully it can be rebuilt , but they can't restore the history .

There were already conspiracy theories given in 2016, when a discovery of gas tanks and Arabic papers were discovered near the Cathedral.

The Spire and the adjoining roof were not part of the original structure as these had been replaced during much earlier renovations. The Spire was in dire need of repair as it had not received any over many years of weathering. The lead had worn thin and some of the gargoyles were badly damaged. Some of the more decorative parts had been removed previously to prevent them falling into more decay. Daily Mirror. The Telegraph.

In 2017, France had applied for donations from the USA for money for repairs, making a pledge that France would continue investing £2/3 million a year for general maintenance.The Local.

Luckily, several valuable pieces of Artwork and statues had already been removed for restoration, prior to the fire braking out and the building had been closed to the public.

Since the fire, there have been many donations made of several £millions to re-build the damaged areas of the Cathedral, The Mirror, The Mail, etc.,

Thank goodness for the Generosity of French Capitalists pledging hundreds of millions to repair work.

I'm surprised this supposedly omnipotent all seeing God allows such a catastrophe especially to one of the most famous places of worship to him/her in the world.

No doubt some religious crank will enlighten us.
