I am sure that there are hundreds of local employers who are anxiously waiting to hire someone for the odd few hours on the odd few days of the week. Have you thought of a paper round?

Seriously, part time work would mean evenings and weekends - you have to be positive in seeking work. That means you have to accept work that is practical to an employer - not just for your own benefit. Most college students do work weekends.

You need to be more specific about hours and type of work.

i took someone on once from a post here re being wanting to be an accountant, took her on and ended up sponsoring her ACCA exams and an absolute asset to the business

    part time work

Yes, employers don't work around your requirements. You've got to do a little bit of negotiating and tell them when you're not in college, that means any day or time . You could find that the hours you need aren't necessarily the hours they give you.

It still might happen though and if anyone is off ill, they'll call in the newbies to do the hours.

Thank you everyone for your comments and thoughts etc. Yes I totally get that said, that part time work may mean evenings/weekends. And things have changed since my first post in as much that I don't mind weekends, as long as it wouldn't be every weekend. Yes I would think that most college students work weekends.
steve, Well as for being more specific about working hours, they would be Wednesdays, Fridays, day time/evening and weekends day time or evenings, though not every weekend. I would prefer shop work. Great to hear you took someone on from a post on here who turned out to be an asset to the business.
Mr Saxon, Yes I realise that employers don't work around our requirements but yes, I can tell them when I am not in college. I don't know why I am saying "I" as this post is actually for my daughter and she is well aware of how things work . Time will tell anyway. All she can do is give any applications and interviews her best shot.

I applied for Tesco at Kew many years ago when I lived on the route of the 44 and got a form and filled out the hours I would be available. Accounting for buses etc and maybe doing the odd through the night stint but wasn't offered it as my hours were "too specific" .
Maybe I should have just left it blank and said "hit me with what you've got...."
