    Queen's Birthday Honours list

I'm not a royalist, so hardly work myself up into a frenzy of anticipation when these awards roll around. But I do find myself wondering exactly what the celebs on the list, of which there are usually many, have done to deserve it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted that non-celebs, those regular people doing extraordinary things, get recognition for lifetimes of dedication to their cause. The foster mums. The doctors. The charity workers. The lollipop ladies. All extremely deserving.

But what have the likes of Olivia Colman or Elvis Costello done? Both fantastically talented, sure. They are already dripping with awards from their industries and peers. They have all been financially rewarded too. Roachford, who had one hit in the 80s? Feargal Sharkey?

I'm pretty sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of dedicated teachers that have done more service to drama than Olivia Colman ever could. So are these celebrities deserving, or are they pushed in as tokens to give the list more publicity?

Such awards and titles have become so common now that they have become farcical. Those who received them hardly ever mention that they have been awarded one. David Bowie, gets my admiration - he was awarded a Queen's Birthday Award of an OBE, which he refused to accept saying "I seriously don't know what it is for, I really don't"

Mc Cartney of the Beatles was awarded a knighthood oddly enough since John Lennon was the leader of the band and had been awarded a lesser award,- but his colleague George Harrison turned down an OBE because he felt insulted and John Lennon returned his MBE.

My view is that too many gongs go to people who are either famous , have loads of money are positions or sportsmen and woman , but there are many ordinary people that are just overlooked .

    Who cares?

In my last job I used to address gentlemen as 'Sir' nearly every day at work as it was protocol not to call out names for confidentiality.

It was also a very useful coverall title in a very busy day.

I had one colleague-a die hard Socialist who refused on principle to call any one 'Sir'.

My overriding memory of her is the day her name inked palm left an indelible print on a chap's lovely crisp white shirt sleeve.

I would not bother about the common family silver - don't be an idiot! it would be the Crown jewels that I would want - there would be a bigger market for those!

I bet you think you are a comedian, don't you? Mine are not for sale, too damned valuable. But I can get far more from the Royal gems! Not so much of the squeaky voice, you!

Politicians fawning around the media and the arts is nothing new, many I am sure would hand out gongs to the Royal family to ingratiate themselves.

It is simply a variation of serfdom, they have bent themselves double for the Monarchy so now the sycophants drool around the showbiz world trying to be relevant.

We could do with our swamp draining .

Maybe Jeremy will make it cool not to be cool.
