    Road sweeping

Why does Part St get a mini street
cleaner on a Sunday, the driver being
higher rate of pay. Then today (Wednesday)
a full size cleaner comes and does it
again. They tell us there's no money. 8

I doubt that the driver gets a higher rate on a Sunday, those days have long gone, it is probably that the mini cleaner has to go from the Tulketh St depot to the end of Lord St to start a daily run so 1 day will be down Part St, day 2 Talbot St and day 3 King St or something like that or it could be that a Councillor lives in Part St.

The small mechanical brush is primarily designed for and deployed on footways.
The large mechanical brush is used to sweep the gutters and can stay out longer covering a much larger area, focussing mainly on main roads or bus routes. There is one for all of the Southport area.
On occasion, and if the driver has capacity in the hopper, the small mechanical brush will sweep the gutters.
On Sunday the rate is time and a half and the drivers concentrate on the town centre. As we've been in 'lockdown' there is less to do in the town centre so the Officers will direct the assets to other areas.

God forbid someone getting paid a bit extra for working on a Sunday, as has been pointed out Sunday in a lot of jobs is just part of the working week and you just get flat rate for every day. In my last job before retirement you didn't even get anything extra for working your rest day just flat rate. They knew before they rang me what the answer would be if they wanted me to work "overtime" for nothing but flat rate.

Sunday is still a weekend day whatever the religion.

In one job many years ago, the factory ran 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, this obviously involved weekend working, but obviously no-one worked those hours, everyone got their time off in fact working 5x8 hour shifts per week, there were at the time still premium rates for Sunday working.

Was sat on a bench on Lord Street on Wednesday. The amount of litter underneath, must have taken a long, long time to accumulate. The small electric cleaner only goes down the middle of the large pavement.

You mean the council put a small man to sweep streets on a Sunday and a full size man on a Wednesday? Interesting.
