Sainsburys Meols Cop Retail Park
Reports elsewhere say that work is soon to start on the demolition of Homebase and construction of the new supermarket.
It is suggested that the company has reverted to the original plans for a 60,000 sq ft store "on stilts" and dropped the modified plan for a smaller, single storey 50,000 sq ft one. Does anyone know?

Nobody has said they are going to build to the original plans, the Council has said that there is nothing to stop them doing so, so it is mere speculation. I don't care as long as they build a Petrol Station.

What makes you think their petrol will be any cheaper than Tesco's or other supermarket outlets? They all collude together to keep the prices higher than surrounding areas. Now and again one of them stirs the pot by reducing their prices by a few pence per litre, but it all settles down again after a few weeks and gradually creeps back up. Sainsbury's will be no different.

The revised plan was reported in October 2018

Currently there are a number of documents lodged during 2019 on the Sefton planning dept pages relating to the development which detail forthcoming work including the provision of 800 driven concrete piles over a 3 month period. The plans for this piling work show the original 60,000 sq ft store not the revised proposal.

Why would Sainsburys or their agents submit details for the construction of the original store in 2019 after requesting planning permission for the smaller option?

Under the planning permission conditions for the original supermarket, the Lord St store would remain for 5 years. The revised proposal for the smaller supermarket did not include this restriction.

Sainsburies is always cheaper than Morrisons & Tesco, what we really need is Asda in the mix as well as they are always the cheapest.
