Should The Police Constabularies be Privatised

Over recent times, the Police have received many complaints about how they have handled situations, or there has been too much authority given to individual officers, etc., for which there has been much media coverage. I could see the way this was heading and mentioned this on Q local a while back - that the Government was looking to privatise the Police Force. This was not picked up at the time - but Unison have published a report explaining that the Government are planning to do just that. Would you like to see the Police Force privatised?
Private companies are poised to step in and run some policing services in your local area. The result is that services like 999 call taking, forensics, victim support and Community Payback (the alternative to prison for some offenders) will be run by private companies for the benefit of shareholders, not society. https://www.unison.org.uk/at-work/police-and-justice-staff/key-issues/privatising-police-services/

I would like to see 'speeding' privatised, as someone on here suggested a while back. That is, private companies being freely granted licenses to operate at the roadside. They would record vehicles exceeding limits and receive a percentage (e.g. 20%) of the subsequent fine....I'd be applying asap for the opportunity!

My dad, a past Southport copper (1934 - 1964) would have been horrified at the prospect.

The most stupid question I have ever heard, the Police are here to serve the people not their paymasters and their rich friends. I think Anarchists might find how much of a minority they are if this was ever touted.

Have you any later photo's I can remember lots of Southport County Borough Constabulary members they were local they were visible and although I never had any dealings with them I obviously saw them on the beat and point duty.
The fear of my father adding to Police punishment kept me on the straight and narrow, not that I had any wish to steal, vandalise or assault any one.

Absolutely not, a police force run by those taking payment as a % of fines is the route to an anarchy ruled by financiers.

Must be one of the most ridiculous ideas ever, a police force dependent on fines for income would be dedicated to looking for any reason to issue fines, rather than solving crime.

Many Police Services have been Privatised / Externalised / Partnerships call it what you want over the years as in any business there are some things you don't want to get involved in so it makes sense to offload it. The problem with the Police is something essential but mundane such as cleaning offices is security, you can't just employ a cleaning company who turn up with a bunch of different unvetted faces everyday. There are already companies that Police forces use already for performing some forensic work / testing particularly for very specialist areas, many forces also have partnerships with other forces and the likes of Universities.
I used to work with contractors who did work for the Police they told stories of ringing to check access to an area being given the OK then turning up for aborted trips due to changed circumstances, sometimes a half day job could entail 3 or 4 visits which the Police gladly paid. Prisons are even harder to work in apart from the normal security of no phones or electronic devices etc every tool has to be inspected and reason for use given before starting and every single screw (pardon the pun), nail etc used has to be accounted for, just don't drop one!

Ahh he was an Inspector obviously not as common as Constables on the street. The only Inspector I knew from that era was Charlie Taylor.

I knew, or knew of, several of dad's colleagues but a Charlie Taylor was not one of them.
