The Perseids and a very impressive moon.
I hope somebody is watching these - both were rather stunning last night.

Watched the fab moon, but turned in early, so did not catch meteors.

I think this is the first year in ages that the sky has been clear enough to see them. I'll be setting my alarm for a very early call to see if I can spot them.

I was stood in the middle of the road at 4 am looking at a very bright and impressive moon, I saw no meteors but there was a line in the sky that wasn’t a plane, I re read this today and realise I should have stayed up later maybe I will tonight.

Not yet but I don’t know if it’s some of the posts on here or the moon but I AM developing a tick.

Here are 2 superb Perseid images.
The first one is a photo of the meteor burning up as the air resistance in the atmosphere heats it to tremendous temperatures.
The second is the output from a spectrometer looking at the first photo. The apparently white light from the meteor is actually made up of specific colours which are similar to fingerprints of different elements.
It shows that the meteor contained the following elements - magnesium, sodium, iron and silicon.

There’s a big lightning storm out to sea just now lighting up the sky over the platform and reflecting over the fields in Scarisbrick, you can just hear the rumbling of distant thunder although rain isn’t predicted here in Birkdale . I went out to see if I could see any meteors as I locked up my car and wondered what that flashing was thinking if it’s the meteors they must be pretty big and unusually close ha ha but saw it was a storm in the distance flashing away over the sea.

Pity you did not manage to get a directional shot from Perseus or is this after the image was rotated? Swift Tuttle remnants. Did you use visual spec. for the bright emission lines? Interesting.

No Jamy. we don't need to remember the long cold winters as hard as they were - just enjoy the sunshine while we have it. It is glorious, gardens so green and full of colour - wow!
