The numbers of cuckoos are declining in the UK

It is said that the numbers of the cuckoo have declined by two thirds in the UK.

These birds are supposed to return to the UK by the beginning of April - but I swear I heard a cuckoo in Birkdale last week. It had the distinct call of the male cuckoo - it was definitely not the similar sounding wood pigeon that I heard. Has anyone else heard one?

Was an idea for the grandchildren but love watching ourselves. Good fun with a £30 WiFi camera for watching the local wildlife. Watch on phone or tablet, of feed to TV.

No! It was not the collared dove's call. The dove's call is similar but extended to that of the cuckoo.
