What Was Your Favourite Book as a Child
What was the best book you ever read when you were young?
I read a good few books - but one that remains in my mind is Dick Turpin. I fancied riding across the countryside on a big black stallion and playing hide and seek with the law.
As I grew older, I decided that I wanted to be a medical Doctor - so I read everything to do with human biology that I could find, I really enjoyed reading these - but not one of those books, not one - mentioned that people bleed a lot when injured! I feel sick when I see blood - so there was a quick career change.

Good job you didn't read 'The Tiger That Came To Tea' .
I loved the Famous Five books. Bothered my parents until I had them all. Wish I still had them.
I remember the very first book I got from the library. It was called 'The Egg' and I can still see the front cover. My Mum was a librarian, and I was so proud of my first library card. I must have been about 3 or 4. Been an avid reader ever since.
Loved 'Stig of the Dump' and the Chronicles of Narnia too.

My parents did not read to me.
But we read a lot of Winnie the Pooh to the kids when they were little
30 odd years ago.

Biggles by Capt. W. E. Johns. I flew that many sorties and never got shot down. Until I got chased off to bed!!
Out of the gloom a voice spoke unto me
''Smile and be happy things could be worse.''
So I smiled and was happy and behold
Things did get worse!

+1 I think I must have read them all, WW1, WW2 and adventures all over the world. I've got an omnibus book with about 3 stories in but the grandsons look at me funny when I suggest reading them, they can't believe that I (or anybody else) could read them.
