The Equifax incident is an extreme example, but it illustrates what can happen if bad actors can get in and scrape a database. Minimising the potential dangers and advising people to ignore warnings and continue to a site, is not good advice. Q might be known and trusted, but so was Equifax, and no doubt countless others I've never heard about. Based on your blanket claim that it's no big deal, people might blindly continue to sites that are compromised. My advice... DON'T.
In my workplace, that same warning regularly occurs because of the certificates.
Obviously, if you do have data that you are afraid might get stolen if the site has been hacked then you should (as I said) read the warning and not proceed. But in the same way that I have no data on my work site I am afraid of losing, I have no personal data on here, so for me proceeding is not an issue. Those who are worried, shouldn't proceed.
But, then again, who would gain by hacking this website? I'm intrigued.

And I should have said, Seivad, that Equifax is a credit reporting agency ( I had to remind myself). This site is totally different . Who wants to hack posters' childhood memories?

I found not going on the site kept me from the fires of hell.

My concern wasn't in regard to Q, and I know who Equifax is. My concern was your 'nothing to worry about, it happens with my workplace regularly', could be construed as meaning it's always safe to proceed on any site.
Are you the IT guy who keeps forgetting about the certificates?

The reason I mentioned my workplace is that the warning is in my experience a commonly occurring one (which it is) and tends to be due to something not being 'signed', rather than a hack.
I'm not saying hacks don't happen, but they occurr most frequently where the hacker has something to gain, which is not the case with Q. Thus, the odds are, 'no worries'.
There will always be exceptions, and if you feel that I misled posters by telling them it's okay to stand under a tree in a lightning storm, as their chance of getting wet far exceeds the likelihood of their being struck by lightning I apologise, but would advise them to choose a less scary mother in their next incarnation.
And, no. I'm not the forgetful IT guy. I'm the guy who wrote him a testimonial after he got fired, because apart from his occasional forgetfulness, he's a whizz with computers and makes people's lives a lot more fun and organised.
