It appears it is a lottery! You just have to log in at the right time. The Supermarkets have stopped people from stockpiling - so that should be OK - but I think there are going to be some price increases pretty soon.

I think it's a combination of people still stockpiling, people being too scared to go to the shops, and those needing support, not having the care they need, so online shopping is their only option.
I know a few people who have got lucky with a cancellation or two. But the odds of you logging in and catching those must be astronomical, I imagine.
There are local shops that deliver. Probably absolute premium prices. But there are butchers, greengrocers and farm shops still trading. And there are still milk deliveries for eggs and dairy. I guess it depends what you want to buy.

I read one idiotic article from the USA that said the reason for stockpiling toilet rolls was that people realised they wouldn't be going to work so they'd need more at home. Somehow I don't think so!

The sale of guns has also rocketed, you have protect those toilet rolls and be tooled up to kill that virus!

Looks like Tesco has admitted failure in online shopping. They're saying that a store visit is required for 85-90% of their product range:

I didn't get a Tesco slot for the first time last night. Was in a queue for about 20 minutes and by the time I got to the 'choose a slot' page, they'd all gone. As far as I can see, Tesco are the only ones who allow you to book a slot 3 weeks in advance, so the demand isn't dropping at all.
Could also be that because they've dropped the 'delivery saver' system, I'm no longer priority when it comes to slots.
Looks like Sainsburys is getting my custom for the foreseeable.

Have you tried click & collect, the pick up point is outside so you don't have to go into the store?

I would definitely use that if I had a car. As I work mainly from home it's an unnecessary expense, so haven't bothered with one for a while. I'd much prefer that than going in the store right now.
Don't fancy using public transport either, as things stand. I'll just make regular trips to Sainsburys or M&S. Gets me out for half an hour.
