It's a real shame for those on low incomes, who have to find the license fee whilst struggling to eat properly - or give up their tv.

Easy enough to make it a pay-as-you-go system, with monthly/annual BBC viewing cards available from convenience stores/P.O.'s, etc.

They're really shooting themselves in the foot with that one.....

Going back on election promises - 'indian giving' - is a sure-fire way to lose votes!

Because someone will have to pay for it, what would you suggest? who do you think will actually pay? not everyone wishes to pay Sky's obscene rates either.

There is no such thing as free TV it all costs money and the BBC is up there with the NHS as a great British Institution.

In Southern Ireland pensioners get free tv, free land line to a certain limit, electric & gas to a certain limit. Good health care. Britain they have to be investigated to get any sort of help. After a life time of work and paying in. Surely we should be looking after the elders.Constantly in the news how so many fall through the help they should have. Ending up in hospital costing 100 times the amount. Any ideas. Who ever you vote for is full of s—t for there own gains? Had my rant.

This is the UK mate, the Conservative party considers everyone a legitimate target except for their rich chums.

I'd rather pay £155 a YEAR to BBC than £150 a MONTH to Sky.

Ha!Ha! and in Southern Ireland they have to be continuously bailed out of debt! The UK had to help them out last time.

You don't! Ditch the TV, get a larger computer screen and watch DVD's on that. You will have more time for your family, more time for your visitors and still have enough time for your hobbies. If your maker had meant for humans to watch a television set he would have built one into your head!

Do you really believe that funding TV licences for over 75s even figures in total UK expenditure, but just good Tory philosophy pass the responsibility to someone else without the funding, then point the finger when things don't, can't just be met, as in local authority funding, all public sector funding, the "savings" don't amount to a can of beans but sticks to good old Tory philosophy, screw those who can't afford and gift aid the wealthy.
