    Key Worker / Support Worker - Mother & Baby Residential Family Centre

    AMBER MOTHER AND BABY - SOUTHPORT


    Job Title: Key Worker (Full Time)

    Salary: £16,640

    Hours: 40 per week (including lunch breaks); Flexible working will be required to meet the needs of the service.



    Amber Mother and Baby – Background

    Amber Mother and Baby is a new residential family centre opening in Southport in April 2014. We will provide accommodation for up to four mothers from the age of 14 and their babies. Whilst living with us at Amber Mother and Baby, the mother will be supported in a safe, homely environment by her key worker and will be provided with support and guidance, both practical and emotional. Whilst caring for her baby, the mother will be assessed using the PAMS assessment tool and will be encouraged to develop new skills, emotional resilience and self-esteem to help prepare her to care safely for her child.

    The PAMS assessment that is written for the Authority who refers the mother and her child to us, will be fair, robust and evidence based and will enable a decision to be made whether it is in the best interest of the child to remain in the care of the mother.

    We have strong links with parenting service providers in the Merseyside area and our team is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of the mothers and their children who are referred to us.

    We are looking for an exceptional individual to join us; someone who shares this vision and who can demonstrate their commitment to working with us to promote Amber Mother and Baby as the service of choice for the social care community.

    Job Purpose

    • To work as part of a close knit, small team within a residential family centre / mother and baby unit;
    • To assist the service user during her time at Amber Mother and Baby by providing emotional and practical support and guidance to assist her to care for her child;
    • To assist the Amber Mother and Baby resident social worker by providing input into a detailed and high quality, evidence based assessment using the PAMS assessment tool;
    • To work in partnership with colleagues (e.g. other key workers, support staff, registered manager) and other parenting organisations to ensure the service user accesses all relevant support available in order to promote positive parenting;
    • To provide a high quality, friendly, approachable and dependable standard of service which meets our Statement of Purpose objectives;



    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Demonstrate a full understanding of and commitment to the purpose of the assessment period;
    • To be flexible in your approach to work and to understand that alternative hours of working / working on a rota basis from time to time will be required;
    • To work as part of a team, demonstrating an understanding of the Amber Mother and Baby vision, values and behaviours expected of all our staff and service users;
    • To assist in the development of objective, fair and robust assessments based on detailed observations of the service user;
    • To ensure the safety of children remains central to the assessment / intervention process. To also promote the health, welfare and safety of all residents and staff;
    • To undertake ongoing risk assessments of the service users, acting decisively to protect children;
    • To build appropriate professional working relationships and work in partnership with other parenting providers (Parenting 2000, Linaker Childrens Centre etc.)
    • To communicate effectively with colleagues at changeovers and ensure information is shared within the team;
    • To participate fully in training and along with input from the registered manager, identify courses relevant to the role and your personal development;
    • To promote and maintain equal opportunity and anti-oppressive practice within the working environment;
    • To have an awareness and understanding of Amber Mother and Baby policies and procedures as well as relevant Government guidelines, legislation and best practice paying particular attention to Child Protection, Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, anti-discriminatory and health and safety policies;
    • To participate in the ethos of a skilled professional team, attending and participating in team meetings, regular supervision meetings;
    • To undertake other duties or tasks identified by the registered manager.


    Person Specific Criteria

    • You are to have good Early Years knowledge as well as experience of supporting families;
    • You will have experience of working with children, young people, or parents within settings such as a children’s centre, contact centre or residential home;
    • You will be organised, dynamic and adaptable and have the confidence and ability to develop and flourish within your role;
    • You will have experience of working within a team and independently;
    • You will need the confidence to refer families to the relevant agencies and have the communication expertise to provide clear and evidence based information and recordings;
    • You will act as a positive role model for the mothers in your care and you will be responsible for ensuring their physical, social and emotional care and development;
    • You will ensure standards are met in accordance with company policies and compliance with individual care plans and appropriate legislative and child protection requirements;
    • You will understand and adhere to the Code of Practice for Social Care Workers;
    • You will demonstrate a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of our service users and will uphold the ethos of Amber Mother and Baby which is to “give every mother the opportunity to live together with their babies and to assess, provide support and guidance with a view to successful integration or re-integration into society”.


    Qualifications and Skills Required

    • Effective, proven communication skills;
    • The proven ability to report and record;
    • Flexible, cooperative approach to work and the ability to work within a small team;
    • A desire to make a positive difference to the lives of our service users;
    • An understanding of the National Minimum Standards for a Residential Family Centre;
    • An NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People's workforce is desirable but not essential for the right candidate. However the candidate must be committed to obtaining the NVQ if they do not already hold it.


    Notes

    • Interview for the position of key worker will consist of a presentation the details of which will be outlined in your invitation to interview;
    • If successful at interview, the job offer will remain tentative until successful notification of an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service search.
    • Title of post to which this position normally reports to – Registered Manager;

    I am currently working as a photographer for Bounty visiting newborn babies and mums on postnatal wards, delivery and special care. I also have volunteered at the local school helping with children in speech therapy. My CRB is very current and I am willing to train for my NVQ 3 Health and social care.
