On 22nd June, an elite set of cyclists from 17 police forces will take on ‘The Police Treatment Centres (PTC) Cycleogical Bike Ride’ to support the PTC's Psychological Wellbeing Programme.
The epic set of 23 riders will aim to cover 230 miles in just 24 hours to raise funds for the expansion of the Psychological Wellbeing Programme.
1 in 4 officers, who currently attend the centres, do so to receive Psychological Wellbeing Support for mild to moderate stress, anxiety or depression as a result of a situation on or off duty. The PTC acts as a lifeline and confidential place of support those officers who require help.
We’re pleased that our very own Force Incident Manager, Inspector Dave Atkinson was selected to take on the challenge. He said: “The PTC’s are vital facilities to provide a service for officers recovering with both mental and physical issues. In the current climate, mental health awareness and wellbeing have never been more important and topical.
“I'm proud to be representing Merseyside Police in, what will be, a tough and demanding but enjoyable challenge.
“Everybody has been really generous so far with their donations for this worthy cause. I'm hoping to raise more sponsorship before, during and after the event itself so please be kind as any amount, big or small, really will make a difference.
“As a keen club cyclist, having done a few 200 mile plus rides in the past, I'm looking forward to the actual challenge but maybe a little apprehensive about what the weather will have install.
“Skin is waterproof as they say so bring it on!"
