Southport BID is about to enter a new chapter, with not only a new term to commence in October for the Business Improvement District, but with the upcoming retirement of its chief executive Hugh Evans.

After working as a consultant on its initial delivery, Hugh has led Southport BID since 2016. In that time Hugh has left been instrumental in a number of key projects for Southport including being the driving force behind the town being awarded Purple Flag accreditation.

Robert Uffendell, chair of Southport BID, says, “All of the Southport BID board wants to thank Hugh for the work that he has done for the town, and with it his vision to bring people and businesses together in the best interests of all. He has created a wonderful legacy for Southport, one which we will be carrying forward and continuing to develop as we deliver the ambitious plans set out in the manifesto for Southport BID over the next five years. He will be missed but we all wish him the very best for his retirement”

Hugh Evans, Chief Executive of Southport BID, says “I have relished my role at Southport BID and seeing the results of the work that the whole team has put into place come to fruition. My belief is that a positive future for Southport lies in the hands of the people who live and work in the town, which Southport BID can contribute to, Southport has huge potential and I look forward to seeing how the BID team and Board continues to drive onwards with the aspirations and passion for the town that we all share.”

Hugh’s retirement means that when the new terms starts in October it will be led by a new Chief Executive. The BID Board, made up from representatives from the Southport business community and levy payers, will appoint someone to the post in due course.


The new term follows a successful ballot held over the last couple of months with all businesses that pay a levy to Southport BID given the opportunity to take part.
