A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said...
Local Policing Team PCSO's from Southport attended Ainsdale Beach Sunday 18th July, in response to reports of a male injured after falling from a quad bike on the beach. Lifeguards had been first on scene to give first aid to a 34 year old male from Liverpool. Following the attendance of the ambulance service on the ground, the Air Ambulance was contacted and landed on the beach to offer more treatment at the scene.
Despite the male being left with potentially serious injuries, apart from one person, his friends abandoned him, as Roads Policing Units arrived at the scene.
The male was eventually felt fit enough to leave the beach in an ambulance to be taken to Southport Hospital and was not required to be airlifted from the scene.
Great work from the RNLI lifeguards in performing potentially life-saving first aid at the scene, on a day when the beach was extremely busy and thanks to the Sefton Rangers for their assistance at the scene.
Section 59 of the Police Reform Act can be applied to the anti-social use of any motor vehicle on the beaches of the Sefton Coastline, which can lead to seizure of vehicles.

Perhaps they didn't want anything to do with the Police questioning the ownership of their plaything. If all was above board and legal there would be no need to vanish.
