United Utilities have mounted an impressive operation to stop Southport running dry.
Events like the Southport Air Show and forthcoming Flower Show mean a spike in demand in the resort and over the last few weeks, UU bosses have organised a convoy of trucks to bring water from a new bore hole at Simonswood near Kirkby to the Gorse Hill reservoir overlooking Ormskirk.
Each truck carries 30,000 litres of water and since mid June there’s been a 24/7 operation to top up the reservoir which holds millions of litres of water.
QLocal’s Roger Blaxall took these exclusive photos on Friday evening at around 10.30; in case you’re wondering, the water used in this kitchen picture was thrown onto his parched back lawn...

Why is it that in features about utilities, we have to be shown a picture of water coming out of a tap, or if it's about gas, a picture of someone putting the kettle on a stove. The national TV news stations do it as well.
We're not thick!
