Apppeal made on local facebook group 'Friends of Southport' on behalf of the son of one of the ladies who tragically died yesterday on Lulworth Road. Qlocal will continue to await any updates from the emergency services and publish when in the public domain.
Appeal as published ...
Friends of Southport would like to assist Vic Foulds, one of our members, in finding an off-duty nurse who gave CPR at the scene of the fatal incident on Lulworth Road yesterday.
“This off duty nurse deserves more than a medal, We desperately need her to come forward” says Vic, whose mother, Grace Foulds and friend, Marie Cunningham were victims of the fatal accident.
The incident took place at 4:35pm when both ladies were just Coming off the bus, and were hit by a white Audi car.
“She was only 100 yards from home.. ” says Vic. Shockingly, it was thought that the ambulance took over 2 hours to arrive at the scene, where police were already on hand. Vic has updated us just now with this statement: “I have now found from a close friend who says ambulance was 40mins (which is still long) but we were not contacted until 2 hours after when my mum went to A & E in an Air ambulance which could not come from N.W.A.S”
“The air ambulance took over 2 hours, only arriving at the scene of the tragedy at 7:25 pm but they had already passed” says Vic, who is a governor of the NHS. “The police were marvellous but we are a community and we deserve answers.”
The driver, however, did stop at the scene. Sharing his feelings towards the driver, Vic said “I am angry but also feeling empathy towards the driver. I’m wondering how he is feeling, having killed two innocent Elderly women.” Vic’s mother was an Anglo-Maltese lady, and also leaves behind a daughter, Carol.
The driver is in custody and police have yet to ascertain details of how they came to be hit at such force.
“It is touch and go if they would have survived if the ambulance had come quicker or not but still over 2 hours is not acceptable” shared Vic with us. Vic only got the phone call at 7.15pm, hearing his mother had passed. He says he “would not have known if somebody hadn’t recognised his mum’s friend, Marie.”
The police are asking for witnesses but Vic would also like to put his own appeal out for the off duty nurse to come forward, who gave CPR at the scene:
“Share, share, share! - please Let’s find out who this lady is that gave my mum CPR” says Vic. “We really need her to come forward”
In a tribute to his mother today, Vic has shared “Amazing Grace as well as a Maltese song, “L-Innu Malti”(bil kliem)
Friends of Southport would like to express our heartfelt sympathy at the loss of Vic’s mother and friend, and offer anything we can do to help or assist the family at this very sad time.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call Matrix Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk, or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 21000831536.
