The Forces Support Charity Shop on King Street is set to close its doors. Selling all kinds of furniture and household goods the store has raised money for Forces veterans.

Sad times when the charity shops are now closing their doors.

It is a pity - it could have done so well, if the owners had priced the items with an eye to the retail prices on the market. Sadly, many items were well overpriced.

I called the shop for someone to collect some bags of various items that I was donating. There were some costume jewellery items among these and when the two men came to collect them, they looked into the bags on my doorstep, picked out the jewellery and started rooting through it right in front of me. They were still scrutinising it as they were walking to their van.

In the shop - I overheard two of the assistants trying to decide what price to put on a small homemade, varnished occasional table that was pretty untidy. "What do you say, shall we put £10 on this?" It was not worth more than three at the most.

I went in there once to enquire about donating something. The bloke behind the counter saw me come in, but moved away and made me walk all around the counter to speak to him.

I asked him about the procedure for donations, and he grunted a couple of monosyllables that I didn't understand.

I appreciate that these people are probably volunteers, but manners don't cost anything.

I was in there this week and I overheard that they are looking for different premises in Southport as the current one leaks everywhere when it rains and it is very cold in the winter for staff.
