A couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday morning, I was travelling along Liverpool Road in Ainsdale at 05:30 ish.

Now I was being a little naughty with my speedo showing 28/39 mph.
Just after the lights for the Arion a Bates's seven and a half tonner flew past me at a fair whack of knots listing to starboard.

    Just sayin'.......

So, even though you have no idea of the circumstances of this incident, you have taken on the role of the Hanging Judge, and condemned the driver out of hand.....just saying’.....

Should've known there'd be at least one.

What a leap you've made from casual observation to successful prosecution and subsequent sentencing - could you perhaps let the Iranian courts know when you're free - you'd do well there.

    Idiot!

I often see Bates trucks in the outside lane on the Formby bypass, the drivers appear to like their speed.

A bit more than a casual observation, perhaps you should engage your brain before your mouth.

Another idiotic comment, if you knew anything at all about commercial vehicles, you’d know that they are speed limited to 56mph, which incidentally is quite legal on the Formby bypass.

Yeeeeesssssss - not advisable when negotiating a roundabout though so clearly it is you that knows nowt about trucks.

Further - I've re-read my earlier post and - taking into account your response to that post, along with your response to bdd's post, I feel I must revise my considered opinion of you.

I congratulate you on being upgraded to pillock!

When they get the driving job at bates they are told that after they have learned the route they will get back and finish earlier and earlier as they get used to the round that can take them around Liverpool or Manchester or the fylde coast and fair enough once you know a route you will get it done faster, but you have to do it faster.
Their drivers start around 3am and race around trying to get back in the early afternoon, I have known a few that have left after a couple of weeks or months as the pressure to keep up with the workload meant having to race around if they were going to have any chance of finishing by noon or be out most of the day, I expect the drivers that stay in the job must be good staff and bates pay just that bit more to keep staff but one way to judge a job is how many times you see it advertised in the free papers, and bates advertise this job regularly.
Years ago I appeared there for a job and was met by the owner, I had just been employed from a job delivering fruit to primary schools as far as fleetwood, bowland and much of Preston and all over really 60 schools a day but they were sometimes distant from each other, normally a drop at a school should take you no more than 6 mins before you arrive at the next one but remote out of the way country schools can take considerably longer, then the company got taken over and I was offered a position under the T U P E rules but thought I would do something else for a change.
Anyhow I had great references and thought the money looks ok and once you learn the route I’ll get around quicker, I had decided to put a good impression on and went for the interview well dressed, shoes black trousers and tie you know as you would.
The interview went well I thought, I was told a round was being prepared in Manchester and within a couple of weeks I would be contacted and they would try me out. A few weeks went by and I called a couple of times to be told they would call me soon, I gave up with them after a month.
I thought with my experience I would be good staff for them anyway a couple of years later I was working delivering bread and one of the drivers used to work at bates ( until they got fed up with the stress of it ) and told me one day he was having a talk with the owner and he remarked “ hey one day this idiot in a suit came for a job”, very nice..
I live close to bates and see the drivers racing back, we all do.
I think I dodged a bullet not getting that job.
