Huge clouds of dust are being whipped up in fields in West Lancashire this morning.

The prolonged dry spell has left the fields with no moisture in the soil and todays winds are scouring the soil into huge clouds of dust.

Saw what looked like this from a high point near Buckshaw village, looked weird

i see this every year from my window....the science says that the topsoil will have gone in 100 years...modern farming methods are very good but have their downsides...the american prairies had the same problem and after they were farmed are now barren....a bit of a worry!

It’s a sad sign of the times. Modern intensive farming methods are destroying the countryside and the habitats for some wonderful wildlife. Poor crop rotation and over tilling of the land and other intensive farming practices are all responsible for this phenomenon.
Over use of pesticides, and the ripping out of hedges to create unnatural prairie landscapes has also decimated our insect and bird life.
