Police are working alongside local authorities, the NHS, businesses and communities across Merseyside to ensure the bank holiday weekend is safe and enjoyable for everyone.

During the long weekend, the public are reminded that outdoor gatherings are still limited to six people, or two households, and the mixing of households indoors is not permitted.

Chief Superintendent Claire Richards said: "Officers will continue to be out on patrol at busy town centres and outdoor spaces this weekend, to offer guidance to the public and ensure people continue to adhere to Covid guidelines.

"We are aware of a number of trial events taking place across Liverpool over the bank holiday - designed to help get the night-time economy back up and running safely. Everyone taking part in these events is doing their bit to get us out of lockdown, but under carefully planned conditions. Once these events have finished - and for anyone else not attending them - it's important to remember the government restrictions on socialising that remain in place: a maximum of six people outdoors, or two households.

"Attendance at the trial events are subject to attendees taking a Lateral Flow Test with a negative Covid-19 result up to 24 hours before. Their support will give scientists, the Government and Local Authorities the data they need to move out of lockdown safely and return to normality.

“Now there are a wider number of outdoor settings and attractions open across Merseyside, we hope people who are able to will consider enjoying these – in turn taking some of the pressure off our local beauty spots. Police will be working with partners to ensure seating rules are being followed at venues with outdoor seating areas.

"Those who decide to go out to restaurants and bars are asked to plan their journey in advance and not crowd in large groups to protect themselves and others from the risk of Covid-19.

"We ask that those who visit outdoor spaces are respectful of others and keep their distance as much as they can. I'd like to also emphasise the importance of parking considerately and safely for the benefit of local residents and other road users.

“Our emergency services certainly don’t need any extra strain at these times, so please remember that NHS staff need to be available for emergencies and not dealing with avoidable situations. So if you do go out: enjoy yourself, stay safe, and plan ahead.

"Lastly, I'd like to thank the vast majority of residents and businesses for supporting the Covid roadmap so far and helping Merseyside to move forward safely."

“Report any concerns to us via 999 in an emergency, or through passing information via @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, and we’ll take the appropriate action."
