Police officers and PCSO's were on duty at one of Ormskirk's busiest junctions this evening after a major traffic light failure at the Fiveways junction.
A single officer coped manfully with the flow of traffic before being joined by colleagues who directed queues of traffic along County Road, Southport Road and Halsall Lane; an LCC contractor arrived at around 7pm to fix the problem.
There were a few angry horns soundede but no 'fireworks' despite the night sky being periodically illuminated with rockets and the like.
And a fire engine was waved through on its way towards Burscough, likewise two ambulances on their way to Southport hospital.
