Only been in Oldfields once I had the cash to buy a car asked them what they would knock off for cash, was told it was screen price so went elsewhere got a better spec car for less money and had it for 10 years regularly serviced and looked after without much trouble.

I believe its illegal to take "cash" nowadays, so they were probably doing you a favour by not taking it!!

You believe wrongly, cash is legal tender. Cash as in a big bundle of notes etc, while legal if it’s an ‘unusual amount’ Then a Suspicious Activity Report needs to be submitted. After that, it ‘can be investigated further’.

The problems with large sums of cash is you have to count it and you’ve got to get it into the bank. (Usually raising another SAR!)

In addition, somewhere like Oldfields will get some sort of commission on sales of finance.

For a business to be trading in one place for 69 years and be still going strong, has to say something for their goodwill and reputation. They must be doing something right.

Over the years we've seen many car sales fold , or move on, some never to be heard of again.

Money laundering is the reason that large amounts of cash are not accepted , or have to be notified.

I once heard of a fella ringing up about a particular car and asking how many miles it had on the clock. Back came the reply ‘how many miles do you want it to have on the clock’.

I would be very careful posting defamatory posts like that on this site.

I think Little Londoner is saying he bought a car 17 years ago, which predates the proceeds of crime act, back when deals were ‘done for cash’ and it was often implied how the tax man would never know.

I've had many second hand & nearly new cars from Oldfields over the years. The cars are priced to sell, not inflated to be knocked down like the big dealerships. No pushy salesmen trying to bump up their commission & meet targets, they are all family members. Good after sales service and a personal touch, although they might find things tough going now that the pedal pusher brigade have tried to shut off Queens Rd.

It’s not ‘the pedal pusher brigade’ it’s a Government scheme.

Queens Road isn’t shut, it’s restricted, Oldfields can be easily accessed via any of the side roads, (Hawkshead Street, Leyland Road etc).
