In Sefton, 1,505 families have been able to realise their dream of home ownership thanks to the Government’s help to buy schemes, new figures out on 30 April 2019 show.

Through the Conservative Government’s Help to Buy schemes, more than 400,000 families have been able to get a foot on the housing ladder since 2010.

Families across the country are benefitting from the schemes with more than 84 per cent of completions using the Help to Buy ISA taking place outside of London.

Help to Buy has two main schemes. One scheme, the equity loan, means buyers only need to raise 5 per cent of a property’s value for a deposit and the government will stump up a loan of up to 20 per cent of the property’s value which is interest-free for five years. This scheme has helped 528 families in Sefton buy their home.

Another Help to Buy scheme allows future first-time buyers to take out an Individual Savings Account (ISA) which pays out a government bonus of up to £3,000 towards the cost of a new home. In Sefton the Conservative Government have helped 977 families to buy a home.

And in more good news for first-time buyers, 288,300 people have been able to achieve their dream of ownership thanks to our stamp duty reforms, new statistics show. First time buyers have saved £680 million following changes announced by the Chancellor in the Budget 2017. The reforms mean 8 out 10 first time buyers now pay no stamp duty at all – benefitting almost all first-time buyers and providing the security that comes with a home.

    Damien Moore MP said:

‘This is fantastic news for the 1,505 families in Sefton who have been able to get the security of their own home through the Conservative Government’s Help to Buy schemes.

‘It is the Conservatives that are helping first-time buyers in Sefton by cutting stamp duty so more young people get the keys for their first home’

‘Home ownership is no longer a pipe dream for the few as these figures show and it’s proof that the Conservatives are helping more people to get on the housing ladder and have a safe and secure home’.

Most of them Higher Rate Taxpayers who could easily afford a mortgage anyway.

The main beneficiaries of help to buy are the house building companies.

A National Audit Office (NAO) report stated that almost two thirds of buyers could have easily bought a house without using the scheme.

"By 2023, the government will have invested up to £29bn in the scheme, tying up cash which cannot be used elsewhere," the NAO said.

Between 2013 and 2018 more than half the sales in England made by Redrow, Bellway, Taylor Wimpey, Barratt and Persimmon involved Help to Buy.

Persimmon which is the biggest beneficiary, with almost 15% of the sales made under the Help to Buy Scheme saw its annual profits top £1bn last year.

Persimmon's previous chief executive refused to answer questions about his £75m bonus. A bonus which was reduced from £100m due to the public outcry.

Profit on a house sold by Persimmon had trebled since Help to Buy was introduced, "roughly from £20,000 to £60,000".

It is unclear whether the scheme is value for money.

Home ownership has dropped under his party!

At least a chance for a photo opportunity so all's not lost.

If they don't do anything you'll whinge.
Then when they do , you still whinge.
This doesn't relate only to the conservative
party , who ever is on power.
