This Saturday afternoon an aircraft of the Royal Navy Historic Flight will be performing a fly past over the HMS Ringtail monument outside Booths cafe on Ringtail Retail Park Burscough.
The Fairey Swordfish was one of the most successful aircraft in the history of naval warfare. Between 1939 and 1945 they saw active service worldwide, pursuing the enemy afloat and ashore in every theatre of war, between the Atlantic and Indian Ocean and Arctic Circle.
And Fairey Swordfish 1 W5856 is the oldest surviving Swordfish in the world! Built in 1941 it served with the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean for three years before being transferred to the Canadian Navy in 1944.
This aircraft and others of the Royal Navy Historic Flight are a living memorial to all those who have served in the Royal Naval Air Service and Fleet Air Arm .
Look out for it around 2.15pm!
